Phase Three - 2007
Strong Beginnings: An Explicit Guide to Quality Practice in the Early Years was launched in early 2007. It is a layer two resource document. More than 50 experienced practitioners and a dedicated team of writers in the Northern Territory developed it, over a period of two years. It aims to assist in the education of children in their pre-compulsory years of school.
Strong Beginnings: An Explicit Guide to Quality Practice in the Early Years professional learning opportunities explored numerous pathways to implement best practice within their own context which focused on:
- building strong relationships and partnerships
- planning for quality learning environments
- exploring active learning approaches and
- developing effective language strategies.
This culminated in bringing together early years educators from across the Northern Territory involved in the Strong Beginnings workshops to share their action-learning journey with their peers.
59 Government Primary Schools have participated in the Age of Entry Policy Trial since 2003. Thank you to all participants for their invaluable contribution towards professional learning opportunities – Strong Beginnings workshops, the data collection, evaluation processes and the feedback.
Phase Two testimonials - 2006
“Every community has a memory of itself.
Not a history, nor an archive, nor an authoritative record...
A living memory, an awareness of a collective identity woven of a thousand stories”
Some of the schools involved in the trial have provided snapshots of lessons learned, their success and their individual journey along the way.
